Afghanistan Embassy, consulates in the U.S. closed

The Embassy and Consulates General of Afghanistan in the U.S. have announced that they have closed and ended operations.

Key Points:

• As of March 16, the Embassy of Afghanistan and its consulates have ended all operations in the U.S. and transferred the custodial responsibility of the properties to the U.S. State Department.
• Consular services will no longer be available for Afghan citizens in the U.S.
• The Embassy of Afghanistan stated that it remains hopeful that “diplomatic relations between Afghanistan and the United States are resumed.” Officials cited a lack of funding and resources to continue operations in the U.S.
