What is the change? Japan will observe public holidays on April 29 and May 4-6.
What does the change mean? Government offices will be closed and in-country immigration processing will be suspended during the holidays.
Background: Japan’s “Golden Week” holiday period begins April 29 with Showa Day. The country celebrates Greenery Day on May 4 and Children’s Day on May 5. Constitution Memorial Day falls on May 3, a Sunday, but will be observed May 6. All four are public holidays and government offices will be closed.
BAL Analysis: Employers should prepare for the office closures and are encouraged to file time-sensitive applications and notifications before the holidays, if possible.
