The Greek government has announced that it has increased passport validity to 10 years.

Key Points:

  • Beginning Sept. 1, new passports for Greek nationals who are 14 and above will be valid for 10 years instead of five years.
  • New passports for those under the age of 14 will be valid for three years.
  • Greek nationals must pay €84.40 to apply for a new passport or renew their old passport.

BAL Analysis: Greek authorities increased the validity of its passport to reduce the burden on its administrative resources and to harmonize its policies with the rest of the EU as most other Member States issue their passports for ten years.
