Immigration News - Argentina Glitches prompting delays in online visa application system Share this article LinkedIn Facebook X (Twitter) November 21, 2018 IMPACT – MEDIUM What is the change? Argentina’s newly introduced online visa application system is experiencing significant delays due to technical glitches. What does the change mean? As it is now mandatory to apply for an appointment through the online system, visa and work permit applicants should anticipate delays and unpredictability in application and processing times in the coming months. Implementation time frame: Immediate and ongoing. Visas/permits affected: All visa types. Business impact: Travel and work start dates may be affected if the delays persist. Next steps: Employers should factor in potentially lengthy delays when planning business schedules. For urgent cases, applicants may pay the government fees for a special appointment and request a special procedure authorized by the immigration office. Background: The electronic filing system was launched earlier this month. Applicants submit applications and upload supporting documents electronically and receive a biometrics appointment date. The online system is expected to eventually speed up processing and reduce the number of in-person visits by applicants, with visa approvals to be granted within a few days after the biometrics appointment and the local ID (DNI) card to be mailed to the applicant. Analysis & Comments: The technical issues are expected to be resolved by January or February. While authorities at the National Migration Directorate work to resolve technical issues with the new system, employers should plan for delays. Source: Deloitte LLP.
