South Korea | Updates to E-7-4 skilled worker visa, online visa guide pilot announced

On Oct. 22, 2026, South Korea’s Ministry of Justice announced updates to the Skilled Workforce (E-7-4) System, which allows certain foreign workers to change their status to skilled worker status and reside in South Korea long term.

Key takeaways:

According to the government announcement, changes for E-7-4 visa applicants will include:

  • Fewer and simplified required documents to apply for an extension of stay
  • A pilot online employment visa guide, which will allow applicants to search for qualifying jobs, see required application documents and calculate E-7-4 points
  • Additional points awarded toward E-7-4 eligibility for staying with the same employer
  • Less time in South Korea required to be eligible for F-2 residency status
  • A defined path toward F-5 permanent residency status

Additional information: The government announcement does not specify when these changes will be implemented or include details on the updated E-7-4-point allocation system. Current E-7-4 rules apply until the ministry provides more information.
