Guatemala’s National Immigration Authority has published new immigration filing fees for 2019. What does the change mean? Effective Jan. 7, government fees will increase for applicants filing for residence status and certification of immigration records. Effective date: Jan. 7. Visas/permits affected: Work and residence permits. Who is affected: Employers sponsoring applicants in any of the above categories. Background: Fees for some key categories are as follows (all rates in U.S. dollars): Services Previous rate New rate (effective Jan. 7) Ordinary passport, valid for five years $30 $50 Visa for an individual who has a residence application being processed $15 $25 Multiple-entry visa for an individual who has a residence application being processed $100 $100 Request for an extension of residence $25 $25 Temporary residence $300 One year: $200 Two years: $300 Three to five years: $300 Permanent residence $500 $700; permanent residence for Central Americans is $500 Transfer of a visa to another passport $15 $15 Annual immigration fee for permanent residents $40 $40 Legalization of documents $25 $25 Certification of immigration records $5 $10 The payment for immigration fees is made in quetzales at the daily exchange rate calculated and published by the Central Bank of Guatemala.
