The Australian Government is seeking public feedback on a proposal to develop a new visa for parents of Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents and eligible New Zealand citizens. What does the change mean? The matters raised in the public submissions will assist the Australian Government in the finalisation of policy settings for the new visa. The new temporary parent visa is expected to become available to eligible applicants in July 2017. Implementation time frame: Written submissions on the development of a temporary stay parent visa are due by midnight on Monday 31 October 2016 (AEDT). Who is affected: Foreign nationals who are parents of a child who is an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen and living in Australia. Business impact: No significant impact. Next steps: Individuals wishing to make a written submission on the development of a new temporary stay parent visa should send their submissions through to temporary.parent.visa@border.gov.au by midnight on Monday 31 October 2016. Background: The invitation for comments on the proposed new temporary parent visa stems from a commitment that was made by the current Federal Government in the lead up to the most recent Australian federal election.
