Immigration Offices to close May 5-8

What is the change? The South Korean government has announced a temporary holiday on Friday, May 6. Immigration Offices will be closed May 5-8.

What does the change mean? Processing will be suspended during the holiday break. Applicants whose expiration or notification date falls on May 6 must appear on May 9. Applicants who had appointments scheduled for May 6 should appear with their reservation receipt no later than May 13.

Background: South Korea observes public holidays May 5 for Children’s Day and May 8 for Parents’ Day. The May 6 temporary holiday creates a four-day weekend.

BAL Analysis: Employers and individuals should plan around the holiday break. Those whose permits expire or whose appointments fell on May 6 should follow the make-up dates and procedures for appearing at the Immigration Office to avoid delay or expiration of their permits.
