TPS validity reextended for six countries

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced it will extend Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for beneficiaries from El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, Nepal, Nicaragua and Sudan. The agency posted a notice for public inspection today and is expected to publish an official notice in the Federal Register Wednesday.

Key Points:

• DHS is automatically extending the validity of TPS-related documentation through June 30, 2024, for beneficiaries under the following TPS designations:
  • El Salvador.
  • Haiti (2011 designation).
  • Honduras.
  • Nepal.
  • Nicaragua.
  • Sudan (2013 designation).
• The TPS documentation that will be extended includes Employment Authorization Documents (EADs).
• Beneficiaries who want a new EAD with the expiration date of June 30, 2024 must file Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, along with the filing fee or a fee waiver.

Additional Information: Individuals who were newly granted TPS under the 2021 TPS designation of Haiti or the 2022 TPS designation of Sudan, but who did not have TPS under the 2011 Haiti designation or the 2013 Sudan designation, are not covered by this notice. In order to receive TPS under the new Haiti or Sudan designations, eligible individuals must apply before the close of the registration periods on Feb. 3, 2023, and Oct. 19, 2023, respectively.

DHS is automatically extending the validity of TPS for beneficiaries from the aforementioned countries in order to comply with court orders in ongoing litigation.
