TPS extended for Venezuela Share this article LinkedIn Facebook X (Twitter) July 12, 2022 The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently announced that it would extend Temporary Protected States (TPS) for Venezuela for 18 months, from Sept. 10, 2022, through March 24, 2024. Key Points: The extension will allow currently eligible Venezuela TPS beneficiaries to retain TPS through March 24, 2024, provided they continue to meet eligibility requirements. The TPS extension permits Venezuelan nationals who were beneficiaries under Venezuela’s existing designation and who have continuously resided in the U.S. since March 8, 2021, to re-register for TPS. Venezuelan nationals who arrived in the U.S. after March 8, 2021, are not eligible for TPS. DHS said a forthcoming Federal Register notice would explain the procedures necessary to re-register or submit an initial registration application and apply for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD). Additional Information: Venezuelans who are currently eligible for TPS under the existing designation but have not yet applied should file their applications before the September 9, 2022, application deadline, including Venezuelans who are covered under Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) set to expire July 20, 2022. The extension permits additional eligible Venezuelan nationals to apply or re-apply for TPS and EADs. BAL will provide additional information as it becomes available.
