Email application introduced for Temporary Work Permit preapproval

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has introduced an email-based application process for the issuance of the Temporary Work Permit (TWP) visa preapproval.

Key Points:

• TWP applications must be submitted by a Nigerian company via twp@immigration.gov.ng for processing and approval.
• NIS will issue approval within 48 hours of receipt of complete application.
• NIS will send approval to the company email address used to submit the application, and will send a copy to the corresponding Nigerian Mission.
• Though the new application process was to commence immediately, its impact will be limited until COVID-19 restrictions are lifted and visa issuance resumes.

Analysis & Comments: The NIS plans to eventually automate its entire work process. Prior to the announcement of the email application process, all applications for TWP preapprovals were submitted manually at the NIS Headquarters. The new email application process is a welcome development, as it will eradicate the logistic issues involved in the defunct manual process and thereby improve turnaround time.
