The Norwegian government has announced that its citizens are permitted to use their expired passports to enter a few European countries.

Key Points:

  • Norwegian nationals who are 16 or older can use their passports that expired within the last three years to travel to Estonia, Germany, Greece, Iceland and Portugal until Dec. 31, 2022.
  • Children under the age of 16 can use their passport that expired within the last year to travel to the aforementioned countries until Dec. 31.

Additional Information: Passport renewals can take up to seven weeks from the day the passport is ordered. Norwegian nationals should expect additional delays when booking a passport renewal appointment.

BAL Analysis: Norwegian authorities have worked with European countries to allow their citizens who have not had the chance to renew their passports since the outbreak of COVID-19 to travel on expired passports. Norwegian nationals should renew their passports as soon as possible to avoid processing delays.
