IMPACT — MEDIUM

The Japanese government has expanded the availability of electronic tourist visas to more countries.

Key Points:

  • As of March 27, nationals and residents of Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Mongolia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, the United Arab Emirates, the U.K. and the U.S. are now able to apply for an electronic tourist visa.
  • Eligible individuals can submit their tourist visa applications through the Japan eVisa website.
  • Individuals holding an electronic tourist visa can stay up to 90 days for tourism purposes and is valid for three months from the date of issuance.

Additional Information: Applicants will be required to login into the Japan eVisa website and show “Visa issuance notice” to appropriate authorities at the airport when traveling to Japan. PDFs, screenshots or printouts of the page will not be accepted.

BAL Analysis: Japanese authorities expanded the availability of electronic tourist visas to simplify the application process for eligible foreign nationals and reduce the number of paper filings.
